“I’ve lost everyone that matters to me”, exclaims the still grieving Shuri after the events of Wakanda Forever. Initially, this was true. The tragedy that struck in the sequel to 2018’s revolutionary movie had M’Baku telling Shuri, “The world has taken away too much for you to still be considered a child.”

The two schools of thought will almost always defy each other, it is duality personified. Hence why seeing them reconcile and greet each other like old friends in the new teaser is a bit shocking, and heartwarming.

In spite of her words, her actions throughout the story show something different. She expresses pain for Colonel Quaritch’s human son Spider when Jake attempts to kill him, despite initially wanting him out the house. She loves and guides her half-human children in their lives as if they were full Na’vi. The titular character, Ippo Makunouchi, is plagued by self-doubt throughout the genesis of his boxing career. What makes it stronger is the all-so familiar feeling: he sees Ichiro Miyata, a boy his age, be excellent at boxing while he is still noticeably raw. Miyata ends up flooring Ippo in a sparring match.
