March 25’s installment of Evolve featured Brooks Jensen versus Cappuccino Jones, a rivalry-starting fight worthy of Match of the Night honors

The match started off with Jensen taking an early advantage with hard-hitting offense, including thunderous clotheslines, forearms, and punches that sounded like they came from the depths of hell. Cap was on the defensive for most of the match, and he sold it extremely well.
What makes Cap such a beloved babyface comes from the fact that he starts off hot with the crowd — holding the coffee cups up — and only builds on that throughout the match. He can sell any type of offense and turn it into numerous sub-stories. Whether it’s the resilient babyface who won’t go down or the fired-up, angry babyface who genuinely wants to slap the smugness off the heel.
The former was evident in this match, while the latter was evident in his match with Jackson Drake at Succession II, which I think is one of the best matches I’ve ever seen. In that slugfest, Drake’s taunting got Cap to make some bad decisions that ultimately led him into tough neckbreakers and suplexes, costing him the match.
This time, however, Cap leaned fully into his resilient side. He was selling so well that despite bleeding from the mouth at one point, he kept going, making every one of Brooks’s moves look painful. Even repetitive offense or moments where he was simply being tossed out of the ring was sold to perfection, and it’s why I’m ready to see Cap’s NXT call-up soon.
Of course, it takes two to make a great match. Cap’s opponent was plenty impressive himself. Besides his repetitive offense, Brooks’ attacks looked plenty brutal. His clotheslines and forearms all landed at the perfect moments with devastating sound to attest to their impact. Jensen is fun to watch because being somewhat of a big man, he moves quickly and efficiently.
Brooks also saved Jones during a botched moment when he failed a springboard attack. Brooks immediately Irish whipped him into the corner. Cap used that impact to recover, and Brooks reversed and pushed him back into position, allowing them to complete the intended spot while turning it into a smooth turnbuckle sequence. It kept the flow of the match intact and showed strong chemistry, as neither of them got thrown off their game.
The match eventually ended in a double disqualification when both men pushed the referee out of the way while fighting outside the ring. Brooks then picked up a cowbell and knocked Cap upside the head with it, making it clear that this is a rivalry that’s going to carry Evolve for the next few weeks. And it was a strong start, enough to get the Match of the Night award.
